Electrocardiogram — (also called ECG or EKG)

An ECG or EKG records the electrical signals of your heart. It's a common test used to detect heart problems and monitor the electrical status of heart. An ECG is a non-invasive, painless test with quick results.

An ECG/EKG is a non-invasive test. You will be asked to lie down in a bed and expose the chest. Multiple sensors (electrodes) that can detect the electrical activity of your heart are attached to your chest and your limbs. These sensors are usually attached to the left side of chest. In some special situations, the sensors may be attached to the right side and back of chest.

  1. This test is simple and quick to perform at your doctor's office, a clinic or a hospital room and in an ambulance.
  2. The ECG/EKG is recommended in the following conditions:
    1. chest pain
    2. Suspected heart attack
    3. Epigastric pain
    4. Back, neck, jaw or arm pain without chest pain
    5. Palpitations
    6. Syncope
    7. Pulmonary edema
    8. Exertional dyspnea
    9. Weakness
    10. Feel of anxiety or impending doom

** Can be requested by physicians in any medical conditions

How long does the procedure last?
  1. It may take 5-10 minutes to obtain the 12 lead ECG
