Confirmed or Suspected COVID19 Patient Transporting (With-in Hospital) Guidlines

  1. In general, transport and movement of the patient outside of their room should be limited to medically essential purposes
  2. If being transported outside of the room, such as to radiology, healthcare personnel (HCP) in the receiving area should be notified in advance of transporting the patient.

If Stable (Not ventilated)
  1. There shall be designated person (Who doesn’t have contact with the patient) for guiding through the path (for opening doors, lift operations).
  2. Maintaining a 2m cordon around the patient will likely require the forward escort to be much further ahead and block off junctions with other corridors/lifts/stairs
  3. Try to avoid the busiest routes
  4. Use the forward escort(s) to carry ‘clean’ equipment (transfer bag)
  5. Appropriate care shall be taken for donning and doffing and hand hygiene.
  6. PPE shall be changed upon reaching the destination if soiled.
If Unstable (Ventilated)
  1. As there is high anticipation for providing medical assistance any time throughout the patient transport the HCW who escort the patient shall wear all recommended PPE.
